What type of signage best suits your needs? Our short glossary below will help you pick from the most common types.

Outdoor Signage

Outdoor signage is generally made of weatherproof or weather resistant material such as acrylic, plastic or metal.  They are sometimes made of a reflective material for easier visibility at night.

Sometimes, they are also backlit, neon or LCD, such as sports arena screens or the giant video screens in Times Square.

Outdoor signage can vary widely in size, style and function.  Outdoor signs can be as small and simple as sidewalk signs,  yard signs for political campaigns, and car magnets. The can also be as large as billboards and marquees.

Outdoor signage serves a variety of other functions as well, such as car top signs for taxi cabs or restaurant delivery vehicles.

Backlits

Also known as light boxes, backlits are signs with a semi-transparent display with light bulbs or LEDs behind it to make the display more visible at night.  They are optionally used for indoor and outdoor purposes.

These can come in many forms and sizes, and with different features, such as being able to rotate horizontally or vertically, or having lighting effects such as flashing or tracking.

Backlit signage comes in many forms. It can be one-sided or two-sided, such as in the case of most restaurant and department store displays.  Backlit signs can also have three or more sides to them, like many of the island signs in shopping malls.

Backlit signs can also show one display or several on each side, depending on the intent of the purchaser.

Slot Toppers

Slot toppers are, simply put, displays located on top of slot machines.  These are typically used for added personalization of slot machines, but can also be used for in-house casino promotions or promotions at non-casino slots.  They can come in nearly any shape or size, and can fit over one or several slot machines.

Slot toppers also can be made of different materials, ranging from easy to remove laminated cardboard for temporary use to more permanent backlit and LCD designs.  There is also the option to have horizontal or vertical rotating designs with slot toppers so you can display multiple promotions.

Lighting effects such as tracking, strobes and flashing are often desirable for slot toppers.

Convention Signage

Convention signage can be used to decorate a vendor’s booth, advertise the event itself and announce specific events and amenity locations at the convention.  Convention signs can be affixed to walls, ceilings or booths, or they can stand alone.  Name tags, place cards and handouts also qualify as convention signage.

Convention signage can come in nearly any shape or style, depending on the needs and budget of the purchaser.  These attention-getters can also be made of any material, from cardboard, magnetic material and acrylic to backlits and LCD screens, again depending on the needs and budget of the purchaser.  Additional eye-catching features can be included, such as horizontal or vertical rotation and various lighting effects.
