Here we share the best uses for booklets and the types of booklet printing you should be able to find at booklet printing companies.
Unlike leaflets or flyers, booklets feel more formal and more informative. While a flyer may advertise an event and a leaflet may give you some surface information about a topic, a booklet is likely to go more in-depth, creating a value-add for the reader. It’s also a piece that readers are more likely to hold on to, or pass on to someone else.
It is very easy to throw out another piece of paper, but a booklet feels like more of a commitment, and therefore harder to absent-mindedly pitch in the bin.
Whats the difference between a booklet and a brochure or leaflet?
Leaflets are usually pieces of paper that are folded to form a booklet-like shape, instead of being actually bound. A brochure may be a thicker stock with folds (trifold or bifold) but does not have any actual binding either. A booklet is unique in that it takes the shape of a small book with a binding in the center.
What types of booklets do you offer?
There are three main types of booklets, though we are always open to discussing different production methods if you are inspired by an idea or a unique project need.
As one of the leading booklet printing companies, our team offers:
Saddle-Stitched Booklets. As the name suggests, this is a type of binding that is stitched. It’s called ‘saddle-stitched’ because it’s created by “stitching” together two or more pieces of paper. In truth, the term “stitched” can also refer to booklets that are bound using staples or another ‘non-stitching’ method. Pagination is generally on the smaller side, but can often hold up to 64 pages in one binding.
Perfect Bound Booklets. With a name like that, it must be the perfect choice, right? The key with “perfect binding” is that it uses only single sheets (no folding) which are all bound on one side. The spine tends to be cleaner and thicker than saddle-stitched options. They are ideal for offering a more “book-like” appearance, especially because they work better with longer booklets that require more pages. They also have a high-end feeling to them, not unlike a moleskin notebook.
Wiro Bound Booklets. In terms of production methods, wire bound booklets are the most advanced. Like perfect binding, they use only single pages, but the type of material used to secure the binding is different, typically using either a wire or plastic spiral spine. Wiro bound booklets often use a plastic covering or other form of ‘cover’ that is harder or more durable than the paper within. This is a popular option because it is very professional looking, but also tends to be fairly affordable. Additionally, page count is more flexible because of the binding type.
What are booklets usually used for?
As briefly mentioned about, booklets tend to be informational: if you have a specific service or topic that you want to elaborate on at length, a booklet is a good option. Think of it as a resource for your customer – a value-add beyond your more traditional form of advertising. Booklets are a form of ‘content’ in traditional media, and very useful one at that.
